On the Karelian Isthmus, surrounded by dense forests, lies Copper Lake. This place will be chosen by someone who knows their strength. Such was the owner of the large house. He came to us seeking a legend — an impressive, powerful garden.
The significant elevation change on the site — nearly three meters — put everything in place when working on the concept. The garden waited for us to create grand scenes.
The center of the plot is occupied by overgrown junipers. Rare plants were delivered from a large European nursery, where they had been growing for decades. Their dense greenery naturally cascades onto the path leading from the house to the forest area. On the descent, stone slabs of volcanic gabbro alternate with terraced wooden decks. As twilight sets in, the descent becomes mesmerizing — offset planes and lighting create the illusion of floating steps in this area.
The garden has subdued zones, but also extroverted ones — with loungers, a summer house, and an open kitchen for the pleasure of the owners and their guests. Boundaries are established by living green hedges around the perimeter and throughout the territory.
The Northern Garden looks like a long-liver with stories to tell. It never gets boring to explore and feel. To listen to the tales of stones — Karelian boulders as tall as human height. To find treasures in the shade — blueberries and lingonberries. To observe the silence in the tall pines while sitting in the lounge area where fire meets water.
