The concept grew directly from the site itself — on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, where strong winds and high groundwater called for a different approach.
The permeability principle became key in this context. We integrated greenery into the architectural structures on the first and second floor levels. We installed linear metal canopies that weave through the wide crowns of coniferous and deciduous trees, creating a web-like effect. This deepens the sense of a natural, "breathing" space — offering a feeling of security, so people feel grounded rather than dwarfed by the high-rises around them.
The Afa company designed the play scenarios for the children's and sports areas. On our end, plants and shrubs divide these spaces into open areas for public recreation and quieter, more private corners for reading or personal training — something today's city dwellers especially value.
While working on the project, we aimed to create an environment that would keep its relevance over time. This does not mean giving up bright accents, but rather striving for a balance between restraint and expressiveness. For instance, we steered clear of "loud" colors, yet not at the expense of diversity: exotic plants are paired with natural materials, like decking in the landscaped areas. These “green islands” both separate functional zones (sports, children’s) and form a balanced Scandinavian landscape.
We paid special attention to fruit trees, which reinforce the site's character. They blossom for a longer time and more vibrantly than common species, producing striking visual and aromatic highlights. Even though the blossoms don't last long, they matter — bringing residents closer to nature, marking the seasons, and giving the space a sense of life.
