"The Timeless Garden" — a two-level garden in the Moscow downtown. The project extends well beyond the typical concept of an urban green area. This is a multifunctional meeting space for generations, designed for decades to come.
The concept of "The Timeless Garden" project embodies the strive for crafting an environment that remains equally relevant and appealing today, tomorrow, and over 2-3 decades. Comfortable for all ages — children, teens, adults, seniors — with a place for everyone to call their own. The garden turns into a focal point for the whole neighborhood, where locals, employees from nearby business centers, younger and senior students, and area visitors gather.
For this project, we focused on the defining trend of recent years. We designed a space with the ability to bring people together. The relatively small area seamlessly integrates a kids' area with educational elements, tranquil spots with a singing waterfall and mist for meditation, an herb garden for sensual interaction with nature, spaces for meeting and strolling.
The central element of the garden is a two-level pavilion with a green roof and viewing terraces. This solution expanded the useful green space from 33 to 50 acres. You can go up to the pavilion and look around. For some, it might become an unconventional reading spot; for others, a beloved green oasis just outside the door. A ramp and an elevator are provided for people with limited mobility. And in the very center of the pavilion we placed an art installation, a 10-meter-high rock with a waterfall giving the sensation of being in the untamed northern wilderness.
The landscape echoes the Karelian terrain. Hills, rock formations, and dense plantings shape the unique Scandinavian garden® and effectively block out the metropolis's noise for the local residents. It's a wild nature oasis amidst high-rise buildings; a spot for gaining harmony.
Special focus is given to technologies of the future. The garden hosts a smart speaker with Alice AI assistant. Anyone can communicate with the AI, control the sound around, or get some information. At night, the area is enlivened by vibrant light displays.
All plants are chosen for their urban resilience and low maintenance needs, embodying the concept of a "timeless garden" — alive yet self-sustaining.
"The Timeless Garden" is a response to the challenges of contemporary city: increasing social isolation, a lack of a quality public environment, and intergenerational disunity. We have developed a vibrant, dynamic core of a new neighborhood, where everyone feels connected to something greater.
