A peaceful and futuristic space in the heart of the major residential cluster. This is where the innovative and the traditional meet. This is about the Kazakh culture.
Just beside the park, you'll find some of Astana's most famous landmarks — the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation and the Hazret Sultan Mosque. The developer's brief was to create a recreational park for city residents, one that would help shape the architectural character of this emerging district. The assignment was unique in that we had to decide how to proceed with future development in addition to taking responsibility for the park's environment.
The interplay of Oasis Park's many components reveals what makes this site unique, along with some genuinely experimental thinking behind the landscape design. Its circular shape embraces many elements: alleys, water areas, traffic and business, cultural centers, sports facilities, and restaurants. Every part of the site was considered individually, with landscaping designed to tie the various areas together under one coherent Scandinavian garden® language. The location’s natural features — salty water and Astana’s severe climate — contributed to a professional challenge.
We have decided to create a unique microclimatic park based on four main principles: creating a comfortable climate, being inspired by bionics, accounting for the needs of different social groups, and supporting the country’s cultural development. Our approach to the design and construction of the park rests on innovative technology and traditional materials. To enhance visitors’ comfort and convenience, we planned the park’s layout with permeability and the mixing of various functional areas in mind.
With this project, we envisioned a cultural hub for the city. The park has no strict obligations but is designed to become a lively and active space for everyone, giving everyone comfort and freedom, and thoughtful landscaping connects people with whatever they're seeking in the moment — inspiration, calm, curiosity, or simply a place to recharge.
